How travel insurance can help you have a better holiday
At Pluto, our mission is to make the bad bits about travelling better. We started by offering travel insurance because some of the most common things that can go wrong whilst you’re away can be made better if you have good travel cover. Read on to find out why travel insurance can help you have a better holiday.
It takes the worry away
S**t happens. From lost suitcases to broken iPhones - s**t happens. Obviously we hope that nothing more serious ever happens on your holiday, but you can do everything right and still, bad stuff happens.
Holidays are for enjoying yourself and relaxing. The last thing you need is to be worrying about what would happen if something went wrong. For the sake of a few minutes and a little bit of money, it’s much better to consider travel insurance as part of the holiday cost and to simply take that worry away.
It’s much less expensive than getting caught without it
There are some gambles in life that are worth taking. Statistically, not having travel insurance is not one of them. You can get covered for the year for under £30 (Europe) or around £40 (worldwide). However, the average claim is over £2,000. Even your smartphone is on average £500 to replace. You might as well just pay the thirty quid and know it’s sorted.
It’s more cost effective to get an annual policy
If you plan to travel a lot then it’s more cost effective to get yourself covered for the year than pay for a single trip. That way you don’t just save on money, but even with the super speedy efficiency of buying with Pluto, you save time because you don’t have to re-do it every time you go away. If you are planning as few as two trips abroad within a year, it makes sense to go for annual cover. Just make sure you know which parts of the world your policy covers you for.
Looking after yourself
By far the most anxiety-making thing that can happen on holiday is injury or illness. In addition to the obvious upset that it can cause, in countries without free healthcare the cost of medical care can be phenomenal. Even something as simple as an ear infection can set you back thousands.
One Brit travelling abroad recently amounted a medical bill of £760,000 while visiting America. It isn’t just about the cost though, it’s also about being responsible and looking after yourself and your family.
We don’t want to lay it on too thick, but there are people out there who want to know you’re safe. Wouldn’t it be better just to know what to do and where you stand in case anything happens?
Going on an adventure
Lots of us want to try new experiences on holiday that we probably wouldn’t try at home. Skydiving, white water rafting, extreme sports. So go on, be a daredevil. Just take a little back up with you and tell your insurance provider what your plans are so they can make sure you have the right cover. That way you can enjoy your adrenaline-fuelled pastimes to your heart’s content.
You can support the environment and local communities
As mentioned, Pluto has partnered with the Travel Foundation this year so every time you buy travel insurance with us, we donate £1 to the Travel Foundation. That helps them in their work to promote tourism that brings greater benefits for people and the environment in destinations.
