The Pluto March update
We wanted to give a quick update on what we've been up to at Pluto HQ. On top of everything else, Coronavirus and a couple of storms have meant we've been extra busy!
Here's what we'll cover in the update:
- Android launch and some other product improvements
- Surprising sales numbers
- Coronavirus, and how we're responding to it
- Updates on our much anticipated Pinboard
Android launch and some other product improvements
In February, our Android app went live, following the launch of our iOS app in December. Now Android users can manage their policy, make instant changes, submit claims in minutes and speak to a human even more easily - all from their phone. Welcome to the family.
We've released a couple of new features within the iOS and Android app, to help you get excited about, and prepare for any upcoming trips! Make sure you have the latest version of the app to check them out.
Surprising sales and new partnerships
We try to always stay modest, but the business numbers continue to surprise us. The last 3 months of policy sales have been; Dec - 237, Jan - 413 and Feb - 589. This is all contributing to an average month on month growth of 35% over the past 6 months. It’s amazing to welcome so many new Pluto customers every day. What we used to sell in some of the early months, we’re now doing every day.
And we’ve launched some exciting new partnerships as well. Namely with WeSki - think modern, simple, ski holiday bookings. And also with be right back, a travel subscription business that book surprise curated holidays for you. With many more on the horizon, we can’t wait to announce all the other new places you can easily get your Pluto cover.
Coronavirus, and how we're responding to it
The impact of this continues to grow and the travel insurance industry is trying to keep up and do what it can to help people as much as possible, but also to mitigate the new risk.
First hand, we’ve seen a 10x increase in support requests for people checking if their trips are protected, asking general questions and also upgrading their cover. These are the situations when people want to talk to a human. And, this is an area we work very hard on at Pluto, to deliver the very best to our customers.
We always try to be as transparent as possible with what you're covered for and not covered for. With Pluto, you can add our extended travel disruption cover to protect your trips incase the FCO or WHO changes their advice on your destination.
There are lots of things to think about here for our customers or any traveller for that matter, so we wrote a blog to help answer the most common questions we’re getting.
Coming soon: Pluto Pinboard
At Pluto, we're on a mission to help people make the most of their travels. And the way we do that is by providing useful tools that support you through every stage of planning for a trip. We started with travel cover and we're delighted to announce that we'll be launching our second tool this summer, Pinboard.
What you can expect from Pinboard:
- Everything in one place: It’s quick and easy to save all the things you'd like to do whilst you're away
- Easy to plan together: Invite others to your Pinboard so you can all add and vote on stuff
- Inspiration from fellow travellers: Browse curated Pinboards to find the hidden gems to fill your trip
We'd love your input in helping us design and build Pinboard, so if you fancy getting involved, just add your name here.
That's all for this month, thanks for reading.
